Sunbeds contain fluorescent tubes, which tan the skin by emitting Ultraviolet rays

UVB light promotes the formation of melanin in the pigment cells that give your skin a brown tone.  It can take up to 8 hours to notice burning from UVB rays so please take care.

UVA light causes “immediate pigmentation”.

Your natural skin colour is determined by the amount of melanin produced.  When skin is exposed to UV light, cells deep within the skin-melanocytes-initiate a process which produces more melanin.  This subsequently ‘browns’ as it rises to the skins surface to produce a ‘tan’.
